We first met in a coffee shop.
Then I fell in love.
I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her.
So about 18 months after meeting her, I took her back to the same coffee shop where we met.
The day before I proposed, I wrote her this song. It tells the story of our first date, the hike we went on that morning in the Boulder Flatirons, and even the first time I kissed her cheek sitting on the top of that mountain. I couldn't help myself.
But it wasn't all easy climbs and beautiful views. There was a brief time while we were dating where it wasn't working for us. I left. I'll never forget her words as I walked out the door. She said, "I just want to have someone who will fight for me." Ouch.
It wasn't long before I came to my senses. She got her wish and so did I...an amazing woman to share life with.
Those words of hers made it into that song the day before I proposed.
Still fighting for you, Katie. Happy 5th anniversary.
